Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Reaches Milestones

The Bee – September 6, 2011

Oregon – July’s groundbreaking on the Willamette River Bridge marked an important milestone for the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project in Oregon, TriMet’s project director Rob Bernard said at a recent Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting. He said the project is also ready to submit its Full Funding Grant Agreement to the Federal Transit Administration, which will cover their half of the funding for the project.

The 7.3-mile Project will eventually connect Portland State University in downtown Portland, inner Southeast Portland, Milwaukie and north Clackamas County when it begins service in 2015.

Project staff is still working on securing funding with Clackamas County. Regarding the county referendum, Bernard said, “We have met with Clackamas County. The contract between TriMet and Clackamas County provides the county with a variety of options concerning funding. So, we are working with them on the options that they want to be considered. It is a discussion; but there are many options that they’re looking at.” The Tom Warne Report
